Each FRQ scored by rubric. Show all work. Use correct terminology. Partial credit is common — never leave blank.
Score Distribution
National average pass rate ~60%. STEM APs tend to have lower pass rates. Check College Board for subject-specific data.
SAT Structure (2024+)
Digital adaptive test. 2 hours 14 minutes. Reading & Writing (54Q) + Math (44Q). Score range: 400-1600.
Score Percentiles
1200 = ~74th percentile. 1400 = ~94th percentile. 1500 = ~98th percentile. 1600 = 99.9th percentile.
Key Dates
7 test dates per year. Register at collegeboard.org. Register 4-6 weeks before your test date. Fee waivers available.
ACT Structure
English (75Q/45min), Math (60Q/60min), Reading (40Q/35min), Science (40Q/35min). Optional Writing. Composite: 1-36.
Score Targets
Composite 24+ = ~75th percentile. 30+ = ~95th. Top universities average 33-35. Science section is data interpretation, not content.
ACT vs SAT
ACT has a Science section. SAT is now shorter (digital). Both accepted equally. Take a practice test for each to see which suits you.
